Hello 👋 and welcome to 8 new free subscribers (totaling 246) and 2 more paid (totaling 4)

I really appreciate everyone’s support!

Before we get to this week’s portfolio I wanted to share a little announcement:

(yes yes I know so many announcements but what can I do life works in mysterious ways)

I recently finished listening to audiobook version of The Art of Playing Defense: How to Get Ahead by Not Falling Behind By Whitney Tilson and I loved it so much that I would like to do a giveaway to my subscribers.

I would like to send FIVE BOOKS (physical books) to FIVE SUBSCRIBERS free of charge. The only requirement is that you live in USA and love reading books OR you know someone who would enjoy a copy because I don’t know how much shipping will cost me so can’t go to crazy about shipping books all over the world.

(unless you really really want it and cant get it, then just let me know and I will try to do my best)

Here is a link to The Art of Playing Defense: How to Get Ahead by Not Falling Behind By Whitney Tilson if you would like to learn more about the book or if you would like to purchase a copy by yourself.

I am not affiliated with the book or the author (he doesn’t even know I’m doing this). This is simple me doing what I like to do best, help others whenever I can and also when I think it will be beneficial to them. There are a lot of good lessons that I either learned the hard way or through my mentors and I would love for people to get better of how life should be (on personal level) and how to also improve or not go “on the wrong path” in life.

On another note, I learned you can have different “sections” in substack so I will try (no promise) to play around with it and see if I can some how move something around so the subscribers can choose to which sections to signup to via email and to which just look whenever they have time. I feel like some (all?) would enjoy that.

If you have any suggestions please don’t hesitate and drop them in comments below, reply to this email or DM via Twitter.

Some comments to regarding market and my companies:

  1. Last few days have been (well lets just call ‘em) a bit unpleasant. I think some or a lot of us have gotten used to seeing only green/up days and so many have been feeling discomfort on twitter. I know I’m definitely guild of it. But after a few days and realization that nothing has fundamentally changed with my companies I personally got over it.

The way I see it is (as long as fundamentally nothing changed)

    A) either stocks will keep going down and then go up because everything that is happening is just NOISE and FCF/Earnings/Profits rule the world

    or

    B) everything will keep on going down and down and down until everything will be zero and the world is mad place and it makes no sense what so ever

Personally, I will bet on A with 99% probability (1% for mad world just in case)

  2. I have been doing some buying even though it has NOT been comfortable to do as prices are kept going lower but as I said if there are no news and no chance in the fundamentals I MUST keep sticking to the strategy and buy as the prices are dropping lower the my Margin of Safety!

Speaking of Margin of Safety, in the next weeks post for paid subscribers I will be revealing all of the MoS prices (for current companies and will do so for future companies) and in this week’s post I will be revealing my Price Target Range for for my current investments (and will also do so for future companies) that I’m personally invested in right now.

If you would like to see you them can subscriber for 14 days free trial and check out last week’s post, this week’s post and next week’s post:

Added to $FGNA $SGC $DISCA $LKQ $BUR $VMD $FF $HII

Will be looking to get out of $FGFPP (to generate “cash”) and trying to switch my strategy on $OPRA to be able to buy Call Options for 2022.

So far regarding getting good price on Call Options for 2022 for $OPRA have NOT been success so I’m keeping my actual stock. If I get filled on Call Options then I will sell my stock and will move that money to either $VMD or $BUR.

Also regarding $BUR, Andrew Walker’s Yet Another Value Podcast - Artem Fokin from Caro-Kann on Burford's bull case. Highly recommend to anyone who is invested in $BUR , looking to invest in $BUR, or wants to learn more about Burford.

@day_lew 1. Start as stock picker 2. Build audience. 3. Earn more money from media than from Investing 4. Stop stock picking and invest in index funds to free up time to do more media. 5. ... 6. Profit

Which made me think…there are a lot of “FinTwit Influencers” that talks a lot about stocks, stock research, but never really disclose their own holdings OR the amount of money they have in those holdings.

Basically they are not really “eating their own cooking” and I’m realizing that it can be misleading and actually a bit annoying because its one thing to talk about deep dives and companies and its a whole another level to actually invest in them.

Now I will not name those who I know who talk about stocks (and they are really smart) but they do not disclose what they own or how much they have in stock market (which I think is a big deal) but who I can say that are “eating their own cooking” that would be Investment Talk , Science of Hitting , Adventures in Financial Independence, and Fiducia . There are others (most likely) that I’m missing or can’t think of BUT there are (as I said before) many others who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk!

Options, Leverage, and Margins

Yesterday I did a thread on Twitter about my latest options experience (don’t want to rewrite everything so if you click on it, you can read it) that I wanted to also share with all of you, maybe it will be helpful…maybe not.

1/n Probably good time to make a 🧵 about my options experience: I’m not the smartest by a long shot & also not the brightest but when I noticed that I was making good chunk on selling my put options strategy it was exciting but also amount number started to become an obsession
